Describing The Mystery
The goal of art isn’t to attain perfection. The goal is to share who we are. And how we see the world.
Rick Rubin, The Creative Act: A Way of Being
Art is a window into the soul, a manifestation of the artist's inner world. Every brushstroke, color choice, and composition reveals a glimpse into how we perceive the world around us. Whether your inner world is full of wonder and color, like a spring garden bursting with life, or abstract and mysterious, every creative act is a reflection of its maker. This is what makes art so profoundly meaningful and deeply personal.
Describing the Mystery
As artists, our job is to describe this mystery—whether through painting, poetry, music, or any other medium. My paintings, for instance, have their own quirky, emotional perspective. You can probably tell that I see the world and its inhabitants as beautiful, mysterious, and magical, even when it all seems bleak. This perspective is evident in my latest collection, What The Wind Whispers, where each piece captures a delicate conversation between the natural world and the human spirit, encouraging viewers to listen to their hearts and be true to themselves.
The Process of Showing Up
Creating art is a journey, not a destination. It requires dedication, perseverance, and, most importantly, the willingness to show up. Every day spent in the studio is an opportunity to explore new ideas, experiment with techniques, and, sometimes, make a mess. There have been countless times when I've accidentally sat on my palette or spilled paint all over the floor. These moments of mischief are just as important as the moments of magic when everything comes together perfectly. They remind us that the creative process is inherently messy and imperfect.
Embracing Imperfection
The goal of art isn't to attain perfection. It's to express who we are and how we see the world. This means embracing imperfection and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable. Each painting in my collection is a testament to this philosophy. From the fox in "Delicate" to the sheep in "Invisible String," each piece tells a story of courage, authenticity, and connection. These paintings are not about perfect execution but about capturing the essence of the characters and the emotions they evoke.
Sharing Our Work
Sharing our work is an act of bravery. It means putting a piece of ourselves out into the world, inviting others to see and feel what we have created. This is always a resounding “Yes” to the universe, a declaration that our unique perspective matters. For me, sharing my work is about creating a connection, and my hope is that my paintings resonate with you on a personal level, inspiring you to embrace your own journeys of self-discovery and authenticity. We are all on this individual path together!
The Power of Practice
A consistent painting practice is essential for growth and development as an artist. It’s through this regular practice that we hone our skills, deepen our understanding of our medium, and discover new ways to express ourselves. Each session in the studio, whether productive or challenging, contributes to our overall artistic journey. It's a practice of showing up, being present, and allowing the creative process to unfold - even when I am tired, hot, and feeling somewhat lazy! I swear to you that a bad day painting is STILL a good day painting!
Inviting Connection
My latest collection is a reflection of my own journey of listening to the whispers of my heart and having the courage to respond. As these pieces get released into the world, they become a conversation between the viewer and the painting. This practice of creating and sharing is an ongoing journey of discovery, vulnerability, and connection. So, whether you’re an artist, a collector, or someone who simply appreciates the beauty of art, remember that art is a celebration of our shared humanity, a reminder to listen to the whispers of our hearts and have the courage to be true to ourselves.
